The joyous light-hearted music of the Baroque is a perfect accompaniment to a grand Thanksgiving weekend. Ear-tickling
Mix and Match

Kuhlau: Flute Quintet for Flute and Strings

Kodaly: Serenade for 2 Violins and Viola

Piazzola: Four for Tango

Brahms: Quintet for Clarinet and Strings, opus 115

Karl Kraber, flute; Stephen Girko, clarinet; Stephen Redfield and Beth Girko, violins; Joan Kalisch, viola: Douglas Harvey, cello

A mixed bag of music that engages your aural sense continuously. Kuhlau’s enchanting melodies for flute and strings are followed by Kodaly’s folkloristic improvisational Hungarian-flavored music. Piazzola adds another dimension of rhythmic strength, and Brahms, in one of his last compositions, shows the master at his absolute best.

Engaging
Musical Collaborations

Mozart: Quintet for French Horn and Strings

Chaitkin: Concerto for Flute and Strings (1985)

Dvorak: Quintet with String Bass, opus 77

Thomas Hale, horn; Karl Kraber, flute; Jessica Mathaes and Elise Winters, violins; Joan Kalisch, viola; Douglas Harvey, cello; David Dawson, bass; Dan Welcher, conductor

A sandwich of the traditional with a contemporary filling - every piece, totally engaging music. David Chaitkin, who has won an award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters among his many honors, wrote this work for Karl Kraber with a National Endowment for the Arts grant. We have chosen to surround his music with two favorite composers, Mozart and Dvorak.
